The artist

An intense fascination with water, and a deep respect for the wild.

Erin Burge is a representational oil painter raised in the Okanagan and shaped by years on the west coast in Tofino — surfing, hiking, and learning the moods of the Pacific.

Her work moves between three subjects she returns to again and again: the restless ocean, the animals of the coast, and the flora of British Columbia. Each painting is an invitation to slow down and notice the beauty — and fragility — of the natural world.

“My entire life I have held an intense fascination with water, and a great deal of respect for the ocean and its powerful embodiment.”

In the studio

Built in layers, painted from life.

Every canvas begins on the trail — in reference gathered while hiking and exploring the coast. From there each painting is built up in oils, layer over layer, until the light feels true.

Watch the work come together in time-lapse, from blank canvas to finished piece.
